Nick Kyrgios announces unexpected recovery, aims for comeback in Australian Open

Nick Kyrgios: A Journey Through Injury and Recovery

Since March 2023, Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has been sidelined from competitive play, leaving fans concerned about his future in the sport. With only six singles matches played since the conclusion of the last season and a history of injuries to his wrist and knee, his return seemed uncertain. After withdrawing from all events following the Miami Open, many feared that this might be the end of his competitive career.

Positive Developments in Kyrgios’ Recovery

However, in a recent discussion with the Australian Associated Press (AAP), Kyrgios revealed a surprising development regarding his knee condition. Despite having previously experienced significant discomfort, especially around the time of the Washington Open in late July, he has noticed a remarkable improvement.

“I’ve had a tough time with my knee, feeling like something was stuck or wrong, but recently it’s felt different—better,” Kyrgios shared.

He expressed how his recent sessions with his masseuse and physiotherapist have resulted in his knee swelling less and allowing him to train longer without pain.

“It feels like my knee has rejuvenated by a few years,” he added, comparing it to how he felt during his strong 2022 season when he reached the Wimbledon final. “Now, I’m moving and training like I did back then. It’s reignited my passion for the game.”

Looking Ahead: A Cautious Optimism

Yet, he remains cautious about his newfound optimism. Kyrgios noted that he is hesitant to become overly excited, but he has started thinking about competing again, perhaps as soon as the Brisbane International.

“I’m in a much better place right now, both physically and mentally. The last few months had me feeling hopeless about my future in singles,” he said, adding, “Now, I’m looking forward to training seriously and working on my game rather than just managing my injuries.”

Kyrgios is slowly beginning to emerge from the shadows of physical setbacks that stall his career ambitions. If these positive changes continue, there may yet be a chance for him to make a noteworthy comeback at the 2026 season’s onset.
