Nicholas Kerr Joins Warriors Coaching Team in a Father-Son Move

Golden State Warriors Coaching Staff Update

In a notable development for the Golden State Warriors, head coach Steve Kerr announced the elevation of his son, Nicholas Kerr, to the coaching staff on Thursday. At just 32 years old, Nicholas has already made a significant impact in the basketball world, having served as the head coach for the Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz, California, for the last two seasons. During his tenure, the team achieved a respectable 20-14 record, finishing fourth in the Western Conference for the G League.

Nicholas Kerr’s Background

Hailing from Cleveland but raised in San Diego, Nicholas Kerr honed his skills on the court as a collegiate player at the University of San Diego and the University of California, Berkeley. He laid the groundwork for his coaching career by working as a graduate assistant at Cal during the 2016-2017 season before joining the San Antonio Spurs as an intern.

With a strong background in player development, Nicholas returned to the Warriors to work in their player development department and later took on the role of video coordinator for three seasons. His journey within the organization culminated in his appointment as a G League assistant coach in 2021, and he ascended to head coach of the Santa Cruz Warriors in 2023.

Steve Kerr’s Legacy

Meanwhile, his father, Steve Kerr, has been at the helm of the Golden State Warriors since the 2014-2015 season and has presided over a successful era, leading the team to four NBA championships and six Finals appearances. Throughout his eleven seasons as head coach, the Warriors have recorded an impressive 567 wins against 308 losses in the regular season, alongside 104 victories in playoff matchups.

Significance of the Appointment

The addition of Nicholas to the coaching staff symbolizes not only a personal milestone for the Kerr family but also continuity and a focus on developing homegrown talent within the Warriors organization.
