Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Rumors
The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively looking to trade veteran center David Kampf, who has recently found himself playing with the minor league affiliate, the Marlies, due to a challenging roster situation and salary cap constraints. At 30 years old, Kampf is midway through a four-year contract that carries an annual cap hit of $2.4 million, along with a no-trade clause involving ten teams.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Kampf has taken a temporary break from the Marlies to evaluate his status with the Maple Leafs. Speculations have surfaced about the possibility of a mutual contract termination, allowing him to pursue opportunities with other NHL teams. However, such a move seems improbable since his contract extends through next season.
In addition to Kampf, reports from TSN’s Darren Dreger indicate that the Leafs are also considering a potential trade involving left winger Nick Robertson. While they are not in a rush to move the 24-year-old, should a trade occur, the organization would be looking for a player of equal value in return.
Edmonton Oilers Roster Adjustments
On the other side, the Edmonton Oilers are being discussed in the context of upcoming roster adjustments to facilitate the return of injured players, including forwards Zach Hyman and Mattias Janmark, as well as defenseman Alex Regula. Friedman mentioned the possibility of moving depth defenseman Troy Stecher, who is currently in the last year of his contract that carries a manageable average annual salary of $787,500. NHL insider Frank Seravalli echoed this sentiment during the Oilers Now segment hosted by Bob Stauffer, suggesting Stecher could be on the move, while also naming defenseman Ty Emberson and possibly Janmark as trade possibilities.
Pittsburgh Penguins Trade Market
Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Penguins are in the market for a left-shot defenseman to fill the gap left by Caleb Jones, who is expected to be out for eight weeks following a lower-body injury. According to Dan Kingerski from Pittsburgh Hockey Now, general manager Kyle Dubas is exploring options in the trade market, with Erik Gustafsson of the Detroit Red Wings, currently in the AHL with Grand Rapids, being mentioned as a potential target. It’s worth noting that neither Emberson nor Stecher would fulfill the Penguins’ needs since they both play on the right side of defense.
