NHL Trade Board Updates: Mario Ferraro and Jeff Skinner of San Jose Sharks

Trade Board Insights

In the latest edition of Chris Johnston’s trade board for The Athletic, Mario Ferraro from the San Jose Sharks ranks at No. 33, while teammate Jeff Skinner is placed at No. 47.

Mario Ferraro’s Trade Potential

Ferraro, a left-shot defenseman, has emerged as a potential trade asset primarily due to his impending unrestricted free agent status. Despite this, there have been discussions between the Sharks and Ferraro regarding a contract extension, indicating that the team may choose to retain him.

If he does enter the trade market, his solid performance as a reliable top-four defenseman would likely attract significant interest, particularly as he excels in the high-stakes environment of playoff hockey. This season, he has played in 55 contests, accumulating four goals and eight assists, totaling 12 points, and making notable contributions defensively with 94 hits and 105 blocks.

Jeff Skinner’s Evolving Situation

On the other hand, Skinner’s situation is also evolving. The veteran winger’s no-trade list has recently been updated to include eight teams, enhancing the Sharks’ flexibility in pursuing a trade if they decide to go that route.

However, Skinner has faced challenges this season, having been scratched multiple times and not having seen ice time with the Sharks since their January 11 match against the Vegas Golden Knights. Notably, despite a rough patch, the 33-year-old has registered two goals and six points in his last six outings.

This season, Skinner’s overall performance reveals a total of six goals and 13 points over 32 games, potentially making him an attractive option for teams in need of experienced secondary scoring if he is made available.
