Neymar’s Poker Pursuit Ends in Disappointment at Online Tournament

Neymar Jr. Ventures into Online Poker

Neymar Jr. recently sought to expand his accolades beyond the soccer pitch by participating in the prestigious Super Tuesday High Roller event during the 2025 World Championship of Online Poker. However, the Brazilian star’s ambition was thwarted as he faced formidable competitors. In the end, he finished in last place among the seven finalists, unable to secure a title as he contended with a significant chip deficit throughout the tournament.

Challenges at the Final Table

Entering the virtual final table, the 33-year-old had the least number of chips, holding less than a third of what his opponents possessed. Despite this setback, Neymar’s participation was not entirely without reward; his efforts netted him $26,111, a significant payout considering the $10,300 entry fee.

Aspirations Beyond Soccer

A fixture in the high-stakes poker scene for several years, Neymar has made no secret of his aspiration to pursue poker professionally once he hangs up his soccer boots. His first in-person poker event at the World Series of Poker in the U.S. in 2022 ended prematurely, as he was eliminated before reaching Day 1’s conclusion. His fondness for poker dates back even further; in 2018, while recuperating from an injury, he shared a snapshot on Instagram showcasing his passion for the game while his club Paris Saint-Germain celebrated a Ligue 1 championship.

Personal Touch and Current Status

Adding a touch of humor to his admiration for poker, Neymar even named his pet dog “Poker”. Currently, he is playing for Santos, his childhood club, after completing six seasons with PSG and two with Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia. In the 2023 season, he has managed to score three goals in twelve matches. However, his absence from the latest Brazil national squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America raises questions about his future with the team.
