New York Rangers’ Adam Fox to miss significant time due to injury, but Olympic hopes remain

Adam Fox Placed on Long-Term Injured Reserve

Adam Fox, a defenseman for the New York Rangers, has been designated for long-term injured reserve due to an upper body injury that is expected to be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. According to ESPN sources, although he recently sought a second opinion on his condition, the prognosis is encouraging and does not seem to indicate any long-term repercussions. This news is particularly hopeful as it suggests his participation in the upcoming Olympics in February remains possible.

Impact of the Injury

Despite this optimism, being placed on long-term injured reserve means Fox will miss a minimum of 10 games and will be out for at least 24 days. His injury occurred during a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, where he recorded an assist prior to exiting after a collision with player Brandon Hagel. Upon leaving the ice, Fox appeared to be in discomfort, particularly favoring his left arm.

Season Performance and Team Outlook

In the current season, Fox has shown impressive performance, scoring three goals and providing 23 assists over 27 games, tying him with teammate Artemi Panarin for the highest point total on the team at 26. With the Rangers currently holding a record of 13-12-2, they find themselves outside the playoff picture, making Fox’s absence even more challenging as they anticipate returning to form while missing their top defenseman.

Olympic Roster Deadline

The submission deadline for Olympic rosters is fast approaching on December 31, further emphasizing the urgency of Fox’s recovery. Fox, a native of Long Island, also represented Team USA in last February’s Four Nations tournament.
