New Coaching Addition for the New York Knicks
In a notable shift within their coaching ranks, the New York Knicks are poised to bring on Billy Lange, the head coach from Saint Joseph’s, to join their coaching staff, according to reports from ESPN.
Coaching Record and Achievements
Lange has been at the helm of the Hawks for six seasons, where he compiled a record of 81 wins against 104 losses. However, he recently saw significant success, leading his team to over 20 victories in each of the past two seasons.
Under Lange’s guidance, Saint Joseph’s earned a spot in the NIT in both 2024 and 2025, marking a resurgence for the program. A standout achievement during this period was Rasheer Fleming, who became the first player from Saint Joseph’s to be drafted into the NBA since 2016; Fleming was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder as the second-round pick in June.
Previous Coaching Experience
Before taking charge at Saint Joseph’s in 2019, Lange was an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers for six years. He previously spent seven seasons as the head coach at Navy and also had two stints as an assistant under Jay Wright at Villanova, accumulating a wealth of experience in top collegiate programs.
Changes in Knicks Coaching Staff
This hiring comes in the wake of significant staff changes for the Knicks, who parted ways with head coach Tom Thibodeau last June after a five-season tenure. Shortly after, the team appointed Mike Brown, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, as his successor. Since Brown’s arrival, the Knicks have made several key assistant coaching changes, including the addition of Chris Jent, formerly of the Charlotte Hornets, and T.J. Saint, who previously led the G League’s Birmingham Squadron.
Looking Ahead
As Lange prepares to join the Knicks, his extensive coaching background may provide valuable insight and innovation to the team’s strategy moving forward.
