New York Knicks Sign Malcolm Brogdon
In a strategic move to bolster their backcourt, the New York Knicks have come to terms with free agent guard Malcolm Brogdon on a one-year contract. This announcement was shared by his agent, Sam Permut of Roc Nation, on Friday morning.
Career Highlights
Brogdon, who is entering his tenth season in the NBA, has been identified as a crucial addition for the Knicks, particularly as they seek to enhance their depth and playmaking capabilities under new head coach Mike Brown.
At 32 years old, Brogdon has a notable career, highlighted by accolades such as the 2016-17 NBA Rookie of the Year and the 2022-23 Sixth Man of the Year, making him one of only two players in NBA history to receive both honors, alongside Mike Miller.
Recent Performance
Last season, he struggled with injuries, appearing in just 24 games for the Washington Wizards, where he averaged 12.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds.
Despite a disappointing shooting percentage from beyond the arc last season, hitting only 29% of his three-point attempts, Brogdon previously demonstrated his prowess as a sharpshooter, boasting a 43% three-point shooting average during the 2022-23 to 2023-24 seasons.
Team Dynamics
His experience is expected to complement another recent signing by the Knicks, Landry Shamet, who also joined on a one-year deal, as the team aims to finalize their roster for the upcoming season.
Brogdon’s journey has included stints with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Boston Celtics, as well as earlier years with the Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers.
