NBA Weekly Rankings: Pistons Rise to No. 1 as Thunder Face Challenges

NBA Trade Deadline Approaches

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, teams are evaluating their strengths and weaknesses in hopes of strengthening their rosters. With only a week left until the deadline, franchises are on the lookout for opportunities to make impactful trades to enhance their playoff chances.

Power Rankings Update

After a recent dip in performance, the Oklahoma City Thunder have fallen to the second position in our weekly power rankings, having struggled with a 13-9 record since mid-December. This comes after their phenomenal start to the season with a 24-1 tally.

In the updated power rankings for Week 13 of the 2025-26 regular season, the Detroit Pistons have surged to the top, benefiting from a solid winning streak. They currently stand at a record of 33-11, marking a one-position gain in the rankings. Meanwhile, the Thunder, now at 37-10, have dropped one spot. The Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs remain evenly matched at 31-15, with Denver improving their position while the Spurs slipped.

Week 14 Power Rankings

  • 1. Detroit Pistons, 33-11 (+1)
  • 2. Oklahoma City Thunder, 37-10 (-1)
  • 3. Denver Nuggets, 31-15 (+1)
  • 4. San Antonio Spurs, 31-15 (-1)
  • 5. Boston Celtics, 28-17 (—)
  • 6. Toronto Raptors, 29-19 (+1)

The race for the top spot remains highly competitive. Despite having fewer losses than the Pistons, Oklahoma City’s recent home court defeats, the first since November 2023, have raised concerns about their form. In contrast, the Pistons have shown resilience, winning eight of their last ten games and boasting the top defensive rating in the league during that stretch at 101.7.

The Toronto Raptors continue to make waves, thanks to the impressive performances from Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, and guard Immanuel Quickley, who recently earned the Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have gradually improved, overcoming their slow start to climb the standings.

Challenges and Opportunities

Further down in the rankings, the Golden State Warriors have rebounded, winning against the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves, who are on a five-game losing streak and have fallen to 26th in offensive rating. Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns face challenges as star Devin Booker deals with a minor ankle sprain, setting back their momentum.

The Clippers are also on an upswing, claiming 15 victories in their last 18 games, while some teams continue to stumble. In the lower echelon of the rankings, the struggling Dallas Mavericks have seen improvement, with promising performances from young talent Cooper Flagg, who has overcome an ankle scare. Still, the Milwaukee Bucks are ending up in a precarious situation with star player Giannis Antetokounmpo set to miss significant time, casting doubt on their season outlook. The Sacramento Kings, having lost five straight, emerge as sellers ahead of the trade deadline.

With a mix of emerging talents and seasoned players, these rankings reflect the constantly shifting dynamics of the 2025-26 NBA season, as teams prepare to make critical decisions before the trade deadline.
