Nazem Kadri rejoins Avalanche, ignites memories of 2022 as team aims for another championship

Nazem Kadri Returns to the Colorado Avalanche

Nazem Kadri is back with the Colorado Avalanche, and he can’t help but smile, despite one small regret:

“I wish I hadn’t sold my house,”

he joked, reflecting on his move back to Denver after nearly four years away, during which he played with the Calgary Flames. Kadri, who was instrumental in helping the Avalanche claim the 2022 Stanley Cup, has found that not much has changed. His drive to the arena is the same, and he still shares strong bonds with teammates like Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Gabriel Landeskog, all part of a context that he believes is primed for another championship run.

Support for the Avalanche

Since joining Calgary in August 2022 on a lucrative seven-year contract, he has been an ardent supporter of the Avalanche from afar.

“It’s always the team I’ve cheered for, even when I wasn’t playing against them,”

the 35-year-old forward noted.

Milestone Achievement

On Thursday, Kadri celebrated a significant milestone by scoring his first goal during his return with the Avalanche in a dominant 5-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken. This marked his first goal for the team since delivering a critical overtime winner in Game 4 of the 2022 Stanley Cup finals. His return coincides with a pivotal time for the Avalanche, who have bolstered their lineup by acquiring Kadri along with other talents like center Nicolas Roy and defensemen Nick Blankenburg and Brett Kulak.

Kadri, a fan favorite since he joined the Avalanche from Toronto in 2019, received an emotional standing ovation during a video tribute featuring highlights of his career when he re-entered the arena last weekend. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Kadri described the reception as

“incredible”

and noted that it truly made him feel at home once more.

Looking Ahead

In his last season with Colorado, Kadri reached new heights, recording 59 assists and a total of 87 points, earning an All-Star Game selection for the first time. Meanwhile, the Flames did not reach the playoffs in his absence, and the Avalanche have struggled to find success in the postseason as well.

His teammates have expressed how Kadri’s competitive spirit remains as fierce as ever. Defenseman Cale Makar remarked,

“He’s aged, I guess, like fine cheese. He’s a competitive guy, and he’ll show up in the right moments,”

emphasizing Kadri’s ability to perform when it counts. As Colorado prepares for another championship chase, they will rely on his experience and versatility, aimed at revitalizing their power play, which could use his scoring prowess.

Kadri is eager to reintegrate, as he senses a powerful drive in the Avalanche’s locker room. He’s aware that the team has spent an impressive 119 days maintaining their spot at the top of the NHL standings, tying their franchise record for such achievement alongside the legendary 1996-97 season.

“I could feel a sense of focus and determination when I walked in the dressing room,”

Kadri remarked, confirming his excitement to contribute to the Avalanche’s journey.

For him, it’s more than just about scoring goals; it’s about the camaraderie and commitment to winning that makes this mission feel familiar once again.
