Naomi Osaka’s Dazzling US Open Debut

Naomi Osaka dazzled in her debut match at the US Open, showcasing both her fashion flair and tennis prowess. The two-time champion entered the court dressed in a striking red ensemble adorned with sparkly roses in her ponytail, complemented by a playful accessory she affectionately named “Billie Jean Bling.” Seeded No. 23, Osaka delivered an impressive performance, defeating Greet Minnen with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

Thoughtful Preparation and Outfit Design

Speaking about her outfit, the Japanese star revealed her thoughtful preparation. The design of her crystal-embellished Nike attire was painstakingly conceived, with Osaka admitting that the intricate crystals posed a challenge for a functional performance piece.

“It was really elaborate because the crystals are really hard to do on a performance outfit,”

she explained.

Significance of the Night Match

This night match held special significance for Osaka, as she expressed her joy at starting her tournament under the evening lights.

“I just thought it would be really fun to do a New York under the lights. I’m glad my first match was a night match because this outfit was really fun to play in,”

she said, hinting at the anticipation of debuting her daytime attire in future matches.

Creative Inspiration for Her Look

The inspiration for her vividly styled ponytail came about only a couple of weeks prior, after Osaka reached out to her stylist with the idea.

“I was like, ‘Do you think this is possible?'”

she recalled. The creative brainstorming led to a look that exceeded her expectations, even if it wasn’t meant for the rigors of play.

“I did always know I was going to take the hair off because it is really heavy,”

she noted.

“There were a couple of times that I played in braids, and even that was kind of borderline. So yeah, I just did it for the presentation.”
