Montreal Canadiens Eyeing Nazem Kadri

In the latest installment of TSN’s Insider Trading, Darren Dreger shed light on the Montreal Canadiens’ interest in Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri. He noted that several teams, including the Canadiens, have been exploring the possibility of acquiring the player.

“I can say there’s a growing interest surrounding Kadri. Teams like Toronto, Montreal, Colorado, Los Angeles, and possibly the Dallas Stars are showing some intrigue,” Dreger commented.

However, he emphasized that Calgary remains unhurried and that significant negotiations are still needed.

Strategic Fit for the Canadiens

The Canadiens targeting Kadri is quite logical; the team is actively seeking to bolster its lineup with a reliable top-six center, particularly with the approaching playoff season. Kadri would likely fill the role of second-line center adeptly and would bring considerable offensive power to their power play unit.

Furthermore, Kadri’s impressive playoff record adds to his appeal. The 35-year-old, who boasts a Stanley Cup title, has also made significant contributions in the postseason with a total of 44 points across 52 playoff games. Should the Canadiens successfully acquire him, he wouldn’t simply be a temporary solution, as he is under contract until the conclusion of the 2028-29 season with a cap hit of $7 million.

Current Season Performance

This season, Kadri has participated in 45 games for the Flames, accumulating nine goals and 25 assists for a total of 34 points. His experience and talent could greatly enhance the Canadiens’ aspirations to elevate their standing as serious contenders for the playoffs.
