Mohamed Salah Makes History
Mohamed Salah has made history by clinching the PFA Player of the Year award for the third time, a feat that sets him apart as the first player ever to achieve this milestone. The Liverpool forward, who had previously claimed the honor in 2018 and 2022, outshone renowned two-time recipients such as Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gareth Bale to secure the 2025 accolade.
A Competitive Shortlist
The announcement of Salah’s win came as he was revealed as the selected favorite from a competitive shortlist that included prominent stars like Alexis Mac Allister from Liverpool, Cole Palmer from Chelsea, Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United, Declan Rice from Arsenal, and Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
A Gala Celebration
Salah received the prestigious award during a gala event held in Manchester on Tuesday, where it was confirmed that the vote came directly from his fellow athletes. Last season, he was instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League triumph, netting an impressive total of 29 goals. His goal in the season opener against Bournemouth last Friday not only contributed to a 4-2 victory but also marked his 187th career goal in the Premier League, tying him for fourth place among the league’s all-time scorers alongside legendary forward Andy Cole.
PFA Young Player of the Year
Additionally, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers was acknowledged as the PFA Young Player of the Year, marking the club’s first win in this category since James Milner‘s commendation in 2010. Rogers prevailed in this category against fellow nominees such as Liam Delap and Myles Lewis-Skelly, among others.
Liverpool’s Dominance
Salah’s remarkable achievement reflects a continued dominance by Liverpool in the annual awards, as the club placed four players in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year; Salah, Mac Allister, Virgil van Dijk, and Ryan Gravenberch were all recognized. Notably, this year marked the first absence of Manchester City players from the Team of the Year roster since 2017, highlighting a significant shift in the competitive landscape of Premier League football.
