Plymouth Argyle’s Coaching Change
Plymouth Argyle’s head coach, Miron Muslic, is poised to exit his role following negotiations with a club in Germany’s second tier. The club, which recently faced relegation from the Championship, communicated that they had “reluctantly” permitted Muslic—a coach with a background in Austrian football—to pursue talks with Schalke, reportedly the interested party.
Muslic’s Tenure at Plymouth
Muslic, aged 42 and formerly of Cercle Bruges, took over the reins from Wayne Rooney in January. Under his leadership, Plymouth showcased commendable performances, including a memorable FA Cup upset against Liverpool, but ultimately fell short of retaining their Championship status despite a strong finish to the season.
Family Considerations and Future Plans
In light of the relegation, Muslic’s intentions about continuing with Argyle in League One have remained uncertain. A club statement indicated that Muslic yearned for the opportunity to be closer to his family after years spent away.
“Despite consistent correspondence without any issues raised, Miron has expressed that this move would allow him to reunite with his family,”
the statement highlighted.
Club’s Response
Plymouth’s administrators voiced their disappointment at Muslic’s decision, emphasizing their commitment to providing resources and a supportive framework designed to facilitate his efforts in returning the team to the Championship. They also noted that new signings were swiftly made and that Muslic previously assured them of his dedication to the club’s resurgence.
The situation adds another chapter to Plymouth Argyle’s quest for stability as they navigate life in the lower leagues after a challenging season.
