Minnesota Wild’s Bill Guerin Selected as a Finalist for Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award

Bill Guerin Recognized as Finalist for Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award

ST. PAUL, Minn. – In an exciting development for the Minnesota Wild, Bill Guerin, the team’s Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, has been recognized as a finalist for the prestigious Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award. Established in the 2009-10 season, this accolade is awarded to the GM who has demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the regular season, as determined by a vote from fellow GMs, NHL executives, and members of the media following the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Guerin’s First Nomination

This marks the first time Guerin has been nominated for this honor during his tenure with Minnesota, which stretches into its seventh season. Under his guidance, the Wild finished the regular season ranked seventh in the NHL in points and successfully advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs—a notable feat not achieved since 2015.

Key Achievements and Strategic Moves

Key to this achievement were strategic player acquisitions, including the trade for defenseman Quinn Hughes from Vancouver on December 12. Additionally, Guerin shored up the roster by acquiring proven veterans such as forwards Bobby Brink, Nick Foligno, Michael McCarron, and defenseman Jeff Petry just before the NHL Trade Deadline. He also brought in forward Nico Sturm through free agency, all of which contributed significantly to the team’s playoff success.

Guerin’s effective management and decisive moves have clearly paid off, earning him a spot as a finalist for the GM of the Year award—a recognition well deserved.
