Minnesota Wild Appoints Sylvain Rodrigue as Director of Goaltending
The Minnesota Wild have officially announced the appointment of Sylvain Rodrigue as their new Director of Goaltending. Rodrigue, a 52-year-old native of Montreal, Quebec, steps into this role following a recent tenure with the Florida Panthers, where he worked as a goaltending coach for the Charlotte Checkers, the team’s AHL affiliate, during the last two seasons.
Responsibilities and Experience
In his new position, Rodrigue will collaborate closely with the coaching staff overseeing goalies in both the NHL and AHL, and will play a vital part in assessing amateur and professional talent while also focusing on the development of both drafted and signed goaltenders.
Prior to his stint with the Panthers, Rodrigue dedicated 11 seasons to the Edmonton Oilers’ organization from 2013 to 2024. His roles there varied widely, often involving responsibilities as a goaltending consultant, development coach, and assistant, alongside his position as goaltending coach for the Bakersfield Condors.
Playing Career and Impact
Rodrigue has also experienced life on the ice, having played four seasons in the QMJHL, where he recorded a goals-against average (GAA) of 4.38 and a save percentage (SV%) of .863 over 167 games.
Notably, the Wild’s goaltenders have excelled, ranking first in the NHL for save percentage in the past two seasons. Conversely, during Rodrigue’s recent time with the Panthers, their team ranked 27th in the same category. This makes his upcoming contributions to the Wild particularly significant as the franchise continues to bolster their goaltending capabilities.
