Minnesota Wild Strengthen Defense with Daemon Hunt
In a recent move to bolster their defensive lineup, the Minnesota Wild have successfully claimed Daemon Hunt off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets. At 23 years old, Hunt has already had a diverse career in professional hockey, having been selected by the Wild as the 65th pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Hunt’s Career Overview
Before this transaction, Hunt navigated through parts of five seasons within the Wild’s organizational structure, including playing 13 games in the NHL over the past two years. He was previously involved in a noteworthy trade to the Blue Jackets where he, alongside four draft picks, was exchanged for David Jiricek last November.
Standing at 6 feet 1 inch, Hunt made a strong impression in the American Hockey League (AHL) during his time with the Cleveland Monsters, recording two goals and contributing 14 points across 48 games.
Roster Changes and Contract Extensions
Following the acquisition of Hunt, the Wild made a corresponding move by releasing defenseman Jack Johnson from his professional tryout agreement, indicating a shift in their roster dynamics.
In related news, the Minnesota Wild have also made headlines recently by extending the contract of star forward Kirill Kaprizov for eight years at a substantial $136 million, as well as securing a five-year extension for goaltender Filip Gustavsson. The team is currently facing other challenges, such as the two-month injury absence of veteran Mats Zuccarello and navigating the retirement of a former player.
