Departure of Derek Falvey from Minnesota Twins
In a significant move for the Minnesota Twins, the club announced on Friday the mutual departure of Derek Falvey from his role as president of baseball and business operations. At 42 years old, Falvey had a nine-year tenure with the team, initially brought on board to lead the baseball division back in October 2016 and later promoted to oversee both baseball and business functions in 2022.
Achievements and Challenges
During his time with the Twins, the franchise achieved notable success, making it to the postseason on four occasions and securing three division titles. However, the past two years have proven challenging for the organization, culminating in a disappointing 70-92 record in the 2025 season.
Leadership Transition
In light of Falvey’s departure, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jeremy Zoll will continue to lead the baseball operations and will now report directly to Executive Chair Tom Pohlad, who will take on interim responsibility for the business side while launching the search for a new president.
This latest shift represents a broader strategy by Pohlad, who recently took over as lead owner, to redirect the franchise’s focus and future trajectory. In a statement, Pohlad acknowledged Falvey’s significant contributions, describing his leadership as “transformational” for modernizing the organization’s operations.
“Derek and I recently had meaningful discussions about the future, during which we recognized that the organization is evolving and the time has come for a change in leadership,”
Pohlad said.
Looking Ahead
Falvey expressed gratitude towards the Pohlad family for the opportunity to serve with the Twins and conveyed his optimism for the team’s future under Zoll and manager Derek Shelton. He also indicated that he looks forward to some family time before pursuing his next professional steps, recalling his earlier career as a scout and executive for the Cleveland franchise.
“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I believe the organization is poised for future success,”
Falvey remarked in his statement.
