WIAA State Boys Tennis Championships

In the heart of Madison, Wisconsin, on June 7, Milwaukee-area players shone brightly at the WIAA state boys tennis championships, securing victories in both singles and doubles categories across Divisions 1 and 2.

Division 1 Highlights

Union Grove’s Nolan Schaub, a senior, celebrated his remarkable achievement by finishing his season undefeated. He triumphed over Alexander Bo from Middleton with a score of 6-1, 6-4, clinching the Division 1 singles title at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Another victory was celebrated by the Kimberly brothers, Aiden and Colin Meixl, who dominated the Division 1 doubles finals by defeating Menomonee Falls’ Michael Balister and Miles Seder with a decisive score of 6-3, 6-0.

Division 2 Highlights

Catholic Memorial High School proved their dominance in Division 2 doubles, capturing back-to-back championships. The duo of junior Finn Milleman and sophomore Brady Latus showcased their skills, defeating the University School team of Miles Gourlay and Jack Gilpin in a tightly contested match that ended 6-3, 5-7, 10-3. This victory capped off a stellar season for the pair, whose combined record stood at an impressive 21 wins and just 1 loss. Finn Milleman had previously won a title last year as part of a different doubles partnership.

Despite their strong performances, Catholic Memorial faced a minor setback in the singles category when Oliver Milleman, Finn’s younger brother, was unable to secure a win against West Salem’s senior Kyle Hehli, losing in a close match with scores of 6-3, 1-6, 10-7.
