Mike Brown to Interview Again for Knicks Coaching Role Amid Strong Consideration

Mike Brown’s Follow-Up Interview with the Knicks

Mike Brown is set to have a follow-up interview with the New York Knicks regarding their head coaching vacancy, according to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania. This meeting marks a significant step for Brown, who has solidified his status as a leading contender for the position.

Brown’s Coaching Achievements

At 55 years old, Brown has distinguished himself in the NBA, notably recognized as the Coach of the Year for the 2022-2023 season due to his success with the Sacramento Kings. His leadership was pivotal in breaking the franchise’s 16-year playoff drought, the longest such streak in league history.

Throughout his time in Sacramento, Brown compiled an impressive record of 107 wins against 88 losses. His tenure included two full seasons where he posted winning records, but he was let go in December during his third season. Brown’s coaching career also includes two prior terms with the Cleveland Cavaliers and a season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Over his career, he has achieved a record of 455 wins to 304 losses and has reached the playoffs in seven of nine complete seasons. Additionally, Brown earned the Coach of the Year title twice, with his first accolade coming during his time with the Cavaliers in 2009.

Previous Contention for Knicks’ Head Coach Role

This isn’t Brown’s first time being in contention for the Knicks’ head coach role; he previously interviewed for the position back in 2020 but lost out to Tom Thibodeau, who has since been dismissed after leading the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 25 years.

Current Candidates for the Knicks’ Coaching Job

Currently, Brown is among three candidates being considered for the Knicks’ coaching job, which also includes Taylor Jenkins, the former coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, and Micah Nori, an assistant with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Reports also indicate that the team is looking at James Borrego, formerly of the Charlotte Hornets and now an assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Prior to starting their search, the Knicks faced obstacles in securing interviews with several other head coaches, including Jason Kidd from the Dallas Mavericks, Ime Udoka of the Houston Rockets, and Chris Finch from the Timberwolves, all of whom declined New York’s requests for discussions.
