Michael Spetner Joins Lakers as Chief Strategy and Growth Officer from the Dodgers

Los Angeles Lakers Appoint New Chief Strategy and Growth Officer

The Los Angeles Lakers have appointed Michael Spetner as their chief strategy and growth officer, a new role designed to guide the franchise’s long-term business approach and explore avenues for expansion on the international stage. This announcement was made by the team’s president of business operations, Lon Rosen, on Wednesday.

Shaping the Future Business Strategies

In his new position, Spetner will be instrumental in shaping the Lakers’ future business strategies.

“As we look to redefine what’s possible across the sports landscape for fans and partners, we will build on the Lakers legacy and orient toward the future to consider what’s next,”

Rosen remarked. He emphasized that Spetner’s expertise will be vital in strengthening the team’s business model and ensuring sustainable growth.

Previous Experience and Achievements

Before his move to the Lakers, Spetner served as the vice president of business strategy and analytics for the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2015. He played a significant role in enhancing the Dodgers’ global outreach, particularly in Japan, where the team’s popularity surged with the arrival of star players like Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. His initiative led to the establishment of a dedicated fan club in Japan and an engaging exhibit in Tokyo that celebrates the Dodgers’ rich history.

Spetner’s background also includes developing analytical tools that have empowered leaders within the Dodgers organization to make informed business decisions. After joining the Lakers, he is expected to bring a similar focus on data-driven strategies to enhance the team’s appeal and marketability.

Vision for the Future

Rosen, shortly after assuming his position, expressed how he yearned for the expansive influence that the Lakers possess compared to his previous role with the Dodgers, underscoring how Spetner’s hiring aligns with the team’s reimagined vision under new ownership led by Mark Walter. This recruitment marks an early but crucial step in a broader restructuring of the Lakers’ front office, aiming to propel the franchise toward greater heights in the competitive sports landscape.
