Michael Conlan Set for Belfast Showdown Against Unbeaten Kevin Walsh in March

Michael Conlan’s Boxing Comeback

Michael Conlan is set to make his boxing comeback in Belfast on March 20, facing off against Kevin Walsh, an unbeaten fighter from the United States, at the SSE Arena. At 34, Conlan’s last match in his hometown ended in a disappointing stoppage against Jordan Gill in December 2023, following a previous loss to IBF featherweight champion Luis Alberto Lopez.

Resuming His Career

After a challenging period of reflection that lasted 15 months, the Olympic medalist and former world amateur champion resumed his career under the guidance of coach Grant Smith, achieving a points victory against Asad Asif Khan in March 2025 and stopping Jack Bateson in the fourth round in September at Dublin’s 3 Arena.

Excitement for the Upcoming Bout

Despite initial speculation about a fight in New York around St. Patrick’s Day, Conlan confirmed his return to Belfast, emphasizing his excitement for this bout as a pivotal moment in his quest for another chance at a world title.

“I’m eager to perform in Belfast as I embark on what could be my last attempt at a world championship. I expect a fierce challenge from Kevin Walsh, who poses a serious threat,”

Conlan remarked, recalling his narrow defeat against Leigh Wood in his inaugural world title match in 2022.

Promoter’s Insights and Walsh’s Confidence

Kalle Sauerland, Conlan’s promoter, hinted that this could potentially be the final opportunity for Conlan to compete in Belfast, as they strategize for another run at the world featherweight title. Meanwhile, Walsh, who boasts an impressive record of 19 victories, 10 of those by knockout, arrives in Belfast with momentum, having secured two stoppage wins in his latest four outings.

“I plan to make a strong impression when I step into the ring on March 20. I respect Conlan and his team for taking this fight, but I’m determined to leave my mark and improve to 20-0,”

Walsh stated confidently.

Anticipation for the Fight

As both fighters prepare for the notable clash, fans can expect an exhilarating evening filled with high stakes and the potential for an extraordinary night in Belfast’s boxing scene.
