Michael Bradley Appointed Head Coach of New York Red Bulls II
Michael Bradley, the former U.S. Men’s National Team star, has been appointed the head coach of New York Red Bulls II, marking an exciting new chapter in his budding coaching journey. At just 37 years old, this role is significant as it represents his inaugural managerial position.
Coaching Experience
Before taking the helm at Red Bulls II, Bradley gained some coaching experience on the staff of Norwegian club Stabaek, where he worked closely under his father, Bob Bradley, from October 2023 to September 2024. His recent experience includes serving as a guest coach for the Canadian national team, collaborating with Jesse Marsch during the international fixtures in June.
Returning Home
Returning to New York is particularly special for Bradley, who began his professional career in 2004 with the MetroStars—now known as the Red Bulls. Reflecting on his new role, he expressed his enthusiasm, stating:
“I couldn’t be more excited to come back to where my professional playing career began. This is a dream opportunity as a young coach. I’m looking forward to working every day with this talented group of players, and I’ll give everything to help them take the next step in their careers. I’m thankful to the club for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”
Remarkable Career Highlights
With a remarkable record as one of the most distinguished players in U.S. soccer history, Bradley has made 151 appearances for the national team, placing him third in all-time caps for the USMNT. His impressive career includes 17 international goals and participation in the FIFA World Cups of 2010 and 2014, in addition to playing in two Gold Cup-winning squads in 2007 and 2017. His accolades also include being named U.S. Soccer Player of the Year in 2015.
Bradley’s club experience is extensive, having played for notable teams such as SC Heerenveen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Aston Villa, Chievo Verona, AS Roma, and Toronto FC, where he was instrumental in the club’s historic domestic treble in 2017.
Excitement from Club Officials
Julian de Guzman, the sporting director of Red Bulls, expressed excitement regarding Bradley’s appointment, stating:
“We are excited to welcome Michael to the club. He had an incredible playing career and is one of the greatest American soccer players ever. We see him as a promising coaching talent and look forward to supporting his development as he transitions to a career behind the touchline.”
