Mexico National Team Squad Announcement
In a significant setback for Mexico, national team manager Javier Aguirre has announced a squad for upcoming friendlies that will not include key players Raúl Jiménez and Edson Álvarez. The two stars are absent due to injury concerns ahead of matches against Colombia on October 11 and Ecuador on October 14.
Injury Updates
Raúl Jiménez, who provided Fulham with their only goal in a recent 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa, is currently nursing a hip injury that has rendered him unfit for selection. This injury also kept him from appearing in Friday’s match against Bournemouth.
Edson Álvarez, the Mexican captain, has just made his return to action with Fenerbahçe after being sidelined since September 6 due to a hamstring injury. He played briefly during Fenerbahçe’s Europa League victory over Nice last Thursday, marking his first minutes on the field for club or country in weeks.
Additionally, defender Rodrigo Huescas has also been excluded from the squad after FC Copenhagen reported that he will miss the remainder of the season due to an ongoing knee injury, raising concerns about his availability for the World Cup next summer.
Selected Players
Despite these absences, Aguirre will have a strong roster to work with. Among the notable players selected are Santiago Giménez from AC Milan, César Montes of Lokomotiv Moscow, Hirving Lozano who plays for San Diego FC, and Genoa captain Johan Vásquez.
Aguirre’s squad aims to maintain competitive momentum leading into the next round of preparation matches for the 2026 World Cup, with additional friendly matches scheduled against Uruguay on November 15 and Paraguay on November 18.
