Messi and Alba Highlight MLS All-Star Roster as USMNT Players Step Up.

Exciting All-Star Selections

In an exciting announcement for soccer fans, Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba, both stars of Inter Miami, have secured their spots on the Major League Soccer All-Star team. This year’s match is set to take place on July 23 at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, where they will face top players from Liga MX. Alongside them, seven of their U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) teammates have also made the All-Star roster, reflecting strong representation on the field.

Selection Process and Player Highlights

The selection process for the All-Star team includes a mix of voting methods. Twelve players were chosen based on fan, player, and media votes, with another twelve picked by Nico Estévez, the head coach of the All-Star team and Austin FC. MLS Commissioner Don Garber also made two selections. Messi and Alba were recognized as fan favorites and earned their places on the squad, marking their second consecutive All-Star appearances, having previously been honored in 2024.

Notably, while Alba played in last year’s match against Liga MX, Messi was sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained during the Copa América final.

Additional U.S. Players

Other U.S. players included in this prestigious lineup are Patrick Agyemang, Max Arfsten, Sebastian Berhalter, Alex Freeman, Diego Luna, Miles Robinson, and Brian White. Agyemang received a special designation as the Commissioner’s pick, while the rest earned their All-Star spots through a combination of votes and selections from the coaches. Commissioner Garber’s second choice was Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano from San Diego FC, underscoring the depth of talent featured in this year’s event.

Pre-Game Festivities and Previous Matchup

As part of the festivities, select All-Star participants will engage in an MLS Skills Challenge on July 22, where fans can see their favorite players showcase their talents in entertaining competitions. In the previous All-Star matchup in 2024, Liga MX emerged victorious with a score of 4-1 over MLS at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio, adding an extra layer of anticipation for this year’s face-off.
