Rory McIlroy has drawn inspiration from Novak Djokovic‘s recent triumph at the US Open, particularly in navigating challenging crowd dynamics, as he prepares for the upcoming Ryder Cup in the United States. Scheduled from September 26 to 28 at Bethpage Black, this year’s competition promises to be intense, with the European team facing a fiercely supportive American audience eager to reclaim the cup after their defeat in Rome two years prior.
Lessons in Composure
During the quarterfinals of the US Open, Djokovic managed to maintain composure while facing a vociferous crowd that was largely cheering for his opponent, Taylor Fritz. His poise—exemplified by gestures of goodwill towards the fans—resonated with McIlroy, who expressed admiration for Djokovic’s ability to stay unfazed under pressure.
“He’s the best at dealing with that kind of atmosphere,” McIlroy stated during a press conference at the Irish Open.
