Max Strus Returns to Action for Cavaliers After Long Injury Absence

Max Strus Returns to the Court

Max Strus finally took to the court for the Cleveland Cavaliers this past Sunday, marking his first appearance of the season after an extensive recovery period that sidelined him for the first 67 games due to a broken left foot. The 6-foot-5 forward had been nursing a Jones fracture — an injury affecting the bone connecting the little toe to the foot’s base — which he sustained during offseason training, necessitating surgery on August 26.

Impactful Comeback

Entering the matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, Strus was subbed in with just under five minutes left in the first quarter. In a thrilling comeback, he quickly made a mark by scoring two three-pointers within the initial 75 seconds of his playtime. Coach Kenny Atkinson had shared before the game that he anticipated Strus would log between 20 and 24 minutes on the floor.

Coach’s Reflections

Reflecting on Strus’s journey back to the game, Atkinson noted the emotional weight of the occasion, stating, “It’s an emotional day when you witness someone go through what he has during the offseason and then struggling to get back. It’s emotional, but it’s also exciting. Just getting that injection of energy from him and seeing his competitive spirit back in the locker room is fantastic. It’s good timing and will be a significant boost for the team, not just today but moving forward.”

Previous Season Performance

Strus had a promising previous season, averaging 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists across 50 games, 37 of which were starts.
