In a remarkable display of skill, the Comets from Mason High School secured the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association team title just a day after Greg Bernadsky’s individual triumph in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I tennis singles championship. They claimed victory without dropping a match, triumphing over University School with a decisive 3-0 score in the finals and edging past New Albany 3-2 in a nail-biting semifinal encounter.
Highlighting Individual Performances
Bernadsky’s stellar performance included a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win against Vishwum Kapadia, while Daniel Tonkal added another singles victory by defeating Lucas Weidenbecher 6-3, 6-3. Shreyas Mantha contributed significantly as well, overcoming Charlie Christopherson in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Notably, the doubles matches remained incomplete during this final competition.
Semifinal Showdown
In the semifinal against New Albany, Bernadsky continued his winning streak, finishing with a score of 6-1, 6-4. The doubles contests were pivotal, with Tonkal and Janek Teply winning decisively at 6-1, 6-1, alongside Aron Dornhecker and Shreyas Mantha, who triumphed 7-5, 6-0.
Indian Hill’s Progress
Meanwhile, Indian Hill has also made its mark by advancing to the Division II team finals. They achieved this feat by narrowly defeating Columbus Academy 3-2, thanks to the strong performances of Neelan Gandhi and Gareth Kurowski in singles, along with the successful pairing of Michael Ryu and Jeremy Starczynowski in doubles.
