Florida State University Triumphs Over Virginia Tech
In a decisive college basketball matchup on Saturday, Florida State University triumphed over Virginia Tech with a score of 92-69, showcasing a strong performance by Martin Somerville. Somerville was instrumental in the victory, contributing 23 points and six assists, while Chauncey Wiggins supported him with an impressive 19 points.
Seminoles’ Dominant Performance
The Seminoles played exceptionally well, boasting a shooting accuracy of 62% overall and 52% from three-point range, with Somerville hitting 9 of 11 shots and Wiggins converting 7 of 8 attempts.
Despite a competitive first half that saw Virginia Tech take a narrow 42-39 lead into halftime, Florida State turned the tide with a remarkable 13-0 scoring spree early in the second half. The momentum favored the Seminoles as they followed up with additional scoring runs of 10-0 and 11-0, ultimately leading by as much as 26 points late in the game.
Notably, Robert McCray V and Lajae Jones each contributed 17 points for Florida State, with Jones also pulling down seven rebounds, demonstrating the team’s dominance on the boards as they out-rebounded the Hokies 28-26.
Virginia Tech’s Struggles
For Virginia Tech, the team’s efforts were led by Tobi Lawal and Ben Hammond, who each scored 16 points. Additionally, Jailen Bedford added 13 points, while Neoklis Avdalas and Amari Hansberry chipped in 10 points each. Unfortunately for the Hokies, their shooting was less effective, finishing the game at just 44% from the field, marking their third loss in the last four games.
