New Manager for New England Revolution
The New England Revolution are preparing to welcome Marko Mitrovic, currently the head coach of the United States under-20 soccer team, as their new manager, according to an insider speaking with ESPN. It is important to note that while the appointment is expected, Mitrovic has yet to finalize a contract with the team.
Transition from Caleb Porter
Should the deal go through, the Serbian coach will succeed Caleb Porter, who parted ways with the club on September 15 following a challenging season that saw the Revolution end up in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, leaving them 17 points shy of a playoff spot.
Mitrovic’s Coaching Background
Mitrovic, who is 47 years old, comes to the Revolution on the heels of a successful U20 campaign where he guided the team to the quarterfinals of the recent 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup. His experience extends beyond the U20 level, as he has also managed U19 and U23 national teams from 2022 to 2024, notably leading the U23 squad to the quarterfinals during the 2024 Summer Olympics held in Paris.
In his previous roles, Mitrovic served as an assistant to Veljko Paunovic, contributing to various Serbian youth national teams, including one that clinched the title at the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2015. His coaching path also includes stints with the Chicago Fire and Reading in England, where he continued to develop his coaching acumen.
Future Prospects
As he transitions to the Revolution, Mitrovic will have access to a pool of talented players such as the former league MVP Carles Gil, along with U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper Matt Turner, who is currently on loan. The announcement regarding Mitrovic’s potential hiring was initially made by The Athletic.
