Vegas Golden Knights Captain Mark Stone Placed on Injured Reserve
The Vegas Golden Knights are dealing with another setback as their captain, Mark Stone, has been placed on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury. This move, announced on Thursday, means that the 33-year-old forward will have to miss at least the next two games, which include a matchup at home against the Minnesota Wild on Friday and a game against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
Stone sustained this injury during a tough 5-0 defeat against the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he took a hit to his left arm. He had already been absent for two games prior due to this injury.
Stone’s Injury History and Season Performance
This situation marks the second time this season that Stone has found himself on injured reserve; he previously missed 16 games earlier in the season due to a broken finger. Despite these challenges, Stone has been having an impressive season—amassing 60 points with 21 goals and 39 assists over 43 games, putting him on track to surpass his career-best season of 73 points, achieved in the 2018-19 season while playing for both Ottawa and Vegas.
In terms of past performance, injuries have plagued Stone’s career; last season he played 66 games, the most he has managed since playing 77 during the 2018-19 campaign.
Golden Knights’ Trade Activity
Meanwhile, as the NHL trade deadline approaches on Friday, the Golden Knights have been active in the market. Just one day prior to placing Stone on IR, the team secured center Nic Dowd in a trade with Washington, following their acquisition of forward Cole Smith in a deal with Nashville earlier in the week.
The ongoing situation with Stone will be closely monitored as the Golden Knights hope for his speedy recovery.
