The 26-year-old forward scored eight goals and added one assist in 39 games during his rookie campaign and has signed a one-year contract extension valued at $900,000. This extension comes on the heels of his participation alongside the 2025 NHLPA Upper Deck Rookie Showcase’s top overall pick, Matthew Schaefer, in August.

Gatcomb, an undrafted player from the University of Connecticut, entertained the hosts with various anecdotes, including a humorous story about his NHL debut on January 14 against the Ottawa Senators at UBS Arena. With teammate Jean-Gabriel Pageau sidelined due to illness, Gatcomb had to hustle straight from a morning skate in Bridgeport to the game. First, however, he made a necessary stop at a barber shop to tidy up his look, highlighting the Islanders’ recent changes under new management that have lifted strict hair and beard guidelines established previously.
