Manny Pacquiao’s Boxing Journey Update
In a recent update regarding Manny Pacquiao’s boxing journey, the legendary Filipino fighter shifted his focus away from Mario Barrios, as confirmed by Sean Gibbons, the president of MP Promotions and Pacquiao’s close associate.
“Manny seeks significant bouts at 46 to further build his legacy,” Gibbons revealed in a conversation with World Boxing News.
While Gibbons emphasized Rolly Romero as a potential opponent for the WBA title, he cautioned not to overstate the situation, mentioning that there are currently no confirmed details. Following a recent draw with WBC welterweight champion, the idea of Pacquiao targeting Barrios has been put to rest.
Instead, Pacquiao is keen to continue enhancing his Hall of Fame career by battling Romero, known for his outspoken nature and former reign as WBA super lightweight champion. Should Pacquiao prevail over Romero, he would set new milestones in his esteemed career, already distinguished by holding titles across eight weight divisions.
Having previously claimed the title of the oldest welterweight champion six years ago by defeating Keith Thurman, Pacquiao aims to extend this remarkable achievement even further into his late 40s.
Future Fights and Legacy
Furthermore, Pacquiao expressed interest in a potential fight against Gervonta “Tank” Davis, whom he considered his prime target. However, Davis opted for a crossover exhibition bout against Jake Paul instead. Gibbons responded to this development positively, stating:
“Everyone has the right to choose their path. We wish him well.”
As Pacquiao evaluates his options—including possibly revisiting a fight with Barrios—fans can anticipate an announcement of his next match, likely to take place at the MGM Grand before the year’s end. Gibbons reiterated that every fight going forward is significant for Pacquiao, highlighting the emphasis on legacy as he approaches his 47th birthday.
“Manny desires meaningful fights at 46 to etch his name further in boxing history,” Gibbons concluded.
