Manny Pacquiao Jr. misses out on Father’s MGM comeback show despite being poised for debut

Manny Pacquiao Jr. Not Making Professional Debut

Despite initial expectations, Manny Pacquiao Jr. will not be making his professional debut alongside his famous father on the July 19 fight card at the MGM Grand. After months of anticipation regarding a potential joint appearance, the younger Pacquiao is noticeably absent from the lineup set by Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).

Focus on Training

According to Marvin Somodio, who trains Pacquiao Jr., the focus remains on honing the boxer’s skills in the gym rather than rushing into a public debut. Somodio stated:

“Manny Jr. is training daily, similar to my other fighters. We’re optimistic about arranging a fight in the near future; however, his improvement is our priority right now. Our goal is for him to turn pro eventually, but we are waiting for the right moment to do so.”

Uncertainty Surrounding Participation

Sean Gibbons, the president of MP Promotions, expressed uncertainty regarding the inclusion of Pacquiao Jr. on the undercard, stating:

“I’m not sure if Manny Jr. is fighting on that card or not,”

further reflecting the mixed messaging from Pacquiao’s team just weeks before the event. As of July 3, the undercard lineup released by PBC featured no mention of Pacquiao Jr., which implies his participation is increasingly unlikely.

Current Fight Card Highlights

While fans still speculate about his potential addition, it seems doubtful given the circumstances. There are currently two open slots on the undercard, with one of those positions already confirmed for Filipino Olympian Eumir Marcial, who will be taking on Alexis Gaytan. The completion of Marcial’s match may indicate that Pacquiao Jr.’s hopes for appearing alongside his father, boxing great Manny Pacquiao Sr., could be dashed.

The upcoming fight card includes several notable bouts, such as the main event featuring Manny Pacquiao Sr. against Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title, promising an exciting night for boxing fans regardless of Pacquiao Jr.’s absence. With the event date closing in, the prospect of seeing a family co-feature would likely be extinguished if Pacquiao Jr. does not secure a match soon.
