Manchester United Shifts No. 10 Jersey from Rashford to New Signing Cunha

Manchester United Transfers No. 10 Jersey

In a significant shift, Manchester United has transferred the No. 10 jersey from Marcus Rashford to new recruit Matheus Cunha, as reported by ESPN. Rashford, who has not played for the team since December, spent the latter part of the last season on loan at Aston Villa. Currently, he has been advised by club officials to postpone his return to training at Carrington, as he is actively pursuing a transfer away from Old Trafford. Preseason activities for United’s squad are set to kick off on Monday.

Player Transfers and Future Prospects

Additionally, United players including Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia have expressed their desire to leave this summer. They have been granted extra time off to facilitate their transfers. If no deals arise, all five players, including Rashford, are expected to rejoin the squad later in July.

Upcoming Matches and Transfer News

Meanwhile, the team under coach Ruben Amorim is preparing for a series of matches in the U.S., beginning on July 22 in Chicago. Aston Villa has opted not to activate their £40 million ($54.56m) option to acquire Rashford permanently, and while that valuation stands for any interested party now, there have been no concrete offers for the forward thus far.

Reports suggest that Rashford’s agents are optimistic about Barcelona increasing their interest in him, particularly after Nico Williams‘ recent contract extension with Athletic Club diminished the likelihood of his transfer. Bayern Munich is also on the lookout for wingers and has previously shown interest in Williams as well.

Rashford’s Preferences and Contract Situation

In addition to Barcelona, the Catalan club has reportedly shown interest in Luis Díaz, though Liverpool remains firm in their position not to entertain offers for the Colombian winger. Notably, Rashford prefers a move to a foreign club where he can compete in the Champions League. Having three years left on his Manchester United contract, the club is open to considering year-long loan arrangements, especially if substantial portions of his salary can be relieved from their books.

Since 2018, Rashford has donned the iconic No. 10 at United, which he took over from the star striker Zlatan Ibrahimović, while Cunha brings a hefty price tag of £62.5m from his previous club, Wolves, where he also wore the same number last season.
