Manchester United Aims for Premier League and WSL Titles by 2028, Says CEO Omar Berrada

Manchester United’s Ambitious Goals

Omar Berrada, the chief executive of Manchester United, has set an ambitious goal for the club as it approaches its 150th anniversary: to secure both the Premier League and the Women’s Super League titles by 2028. This announcement follows a challenging season for the men’s team, which finished a disappointing 15th in the Premier League, marking their worst performance since the 1973-74 season. Moreover, the men’s squad failed to qualify for European competition in the upcoming season.

Women’s Team Performance

On a more positive note, the women’s team performed notably well, finishing third in the Women’s Super League and reaching the FA Cup final, despite ultimately being defeated by Chelsea, who completed a treble this season.

Setting Goals for the Future

In an interview with the fanzine United We Stand, Berrada spoke about the club’s aspirations, emphasizing the importance of setting specific targets.

“It’s establishing a series of targets within a timeframe, so we can focus our efforts and energy on that goal,”

he explained. He expressed optimism about the possibility of achieving this dual title dream, stating,

“Can the team win the Premier League title by 2028? Of course. We’ve just finished 15th and it seems an impossible task. But why not aim for it? Why not do everything in our power?”

Rebuilding the Team

Having joined Manchester United from Manchester City in January 2024, Berrada is hopeful that the men’s team can rebound swiftly. He conveyed a sense of urgency, mentioning the opportunity across the next few summer transfer windows to strengthen the squad sufficiently to challenge for the league title.

“I firmly believe we can do it,”

he remarked, addressing fan concerns and the prevailing mood within the club.

Broadcasting the Journey

Fans of the sport will have the opportunity to follow every moment of this journey, as Disney+ has secured exclusive rights to broadcast all 75 matches live throughout the season. With aspirations firmly set, Manchester United is looking to reclaim its former glory while celebrating a significant milestone in its storied history.
