Manchester City’s New Away Kit for 2025-26 Season
Premier League outfit Manchester City is set to introduce an away kit for the 2025-26 season that draws inspiration from the club’s own storied past, specifically its very first uniform worn back in 1884. This unique homage pays respect to the club’s roots, which date back 145 years to its establishment as St. Mark’s West Gorton FC by two church wardens aiming to channel local youth energy into sport.
Originally based in Gorton, a suburb of East Manchester near where the contemporary Etihad Stadium is located, the club wore an all-black kit featuring a white cross, reflective of its Christian origins.
Transition to Sky Blue
The switch to a sky blue design came shortly after, and the team’s name was officially changed to Manchester City in 1894, firmly associating them with the blue hue up to the present day.
Design of the New Away Kit
The latest incarnation of the away kit channels the early black uniform of the club, presenting a sleek design that is predominantly black. However, instead of the traditional white trim, this modern take includes metallic silver accents, offering a fresh and contemporary flair to the classic look.
Launch and Promotion
To launch this new kit, Manchester City featured prominent players such as Manuel Akanji, Alex Greenwood, Jess Park, and Vitor Reis in a photoshoot. However, the dimly lit, monochromatic visuals may make it challenging for fans to easily recognize the models.
After a series of more avant-garde kits designed in collaboration with the streetwear label Kid Super, the unveiling of this black away kit represents a return to a more classic aesthetic for the club.
