Malignaggi and Goodjohn’s BKB Face-off Rescheduled for October 18

Upcoming Bare-Knuckle Bout: Malignaggi vs. Goodjohn

In a significant update for boxing enthusiasts, the eagerly anticipated bare-knuckle bout between Paulie Malignaggi and Tyler Goodjohn is now set to occur on October 18 at the Ice Palace in Leeds. This change comes as Malignaggi, a former champion in two weight classes, faced a minor thumb injury during training. Originally planned for BKB 45 in Bristol, the fight had to be rescheduled due to the injury sustained by the 44-year-old New Yorker during sparring sessions.

Malignaggi’s Commitment to Readiness

Despite the setback, Malignaggi emphasized that the decision to postpone the fight was a precautionary measure, aimed at ensuring he is fully prepared before stepping into the Trigon. He has been actively involved with Bare Knuckle Boxing (BKB) as a color commentator and lead analyst since 2021 and announced earlier in June a multi-fight contract with the promotion. His ambition is to add bare-knuckle victories to his impressive boxing record, which already boasts titles in the super lightweight and welterweight divisions.

Responses from the Fighters

His upcoming opponent, the seasoned bare-knuckle fighter Tyler Goodjohn, was first revealed to the public during BKB 43 staged in Bolton. Responding to the postponement, Malignaggi stated:

“I’ve had a great camp and I’m in the best shape of my life. But I owe it to myself, Tyler, BKB, and the fans to be at 100% when I step into the Trigon. No excuses. I’m happy I still get to fight in front of the British fans — Tyler, make sure you’re ready. Train hard. We’ve got an appointment on October 18.”

Goodjohn, known for his competitive spirit, reacted with determination, stating:

“Ice that hand, mate. Take what you need to. Just get in that ring because with all the noise about you coming back, there’s no way you can’t fight me. October 18 is going down.”

Event Details and Broadcast Information

BKB’s matchmaker, Mel Valenzuela, has confirmed the shift in plans, offering a discount code to fans who had bought tickets for the initial Bristol event, allowing them access to the rescheduled match in Leeds. The event, named Leeds Brawl II, will be broadcasted live on TalkSPORT for viewers in the UK and Ireland, and on Vice for audiences in the United States and Canada, commencing at 8 PM ET. While the delay might be disappointing for some fans, Malignaggi is focused on making sure he is at peak performance for this highly awaited return to the ring.
