Rutherford’s Transition
Rutherford shared his thoughts during a press briefing following the Canucks’ unfortunate outcome in the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery, where they secured the third overall pick. He remarked,
“I’m going to get away from the day-to-day operations. This is something I’ve been contemplating for a couple of years now, and it’s time for me to do this.”
He emphasized his intention to assist the team during the transition period by providing guidance to the incoming General Manager and the reshaped staff.

In his new role, Rutherford will remain a resource for the front-office team, offering insights and advice as needed. The Canucks are currently in the midst of finding a new General Manager, and the future organizational structure will be clearer post-appointment of this key position. Rutherford stated,
“We’re still working on that with potential candidates and will announce the structure once the GM is confirmed.”
