Agreement Finalized for Luxury Suite Owners at Azteca Stadium
In a significant development for luxury suite owners at the Azteca Stadium, managing director Felix Aguirre announced on Friday that an agreement has been finalized with FIFA, allowing these individuals unrestricted access to their seats during the 2026 World Cup matches in Mexico City, without any extra charges. This decision comes after a prolonged negotiation period, which Aguirre detailed in an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva, stating:
“We are pleased to declare that all negotiations and agreements with FIFA have been concluded. We are only finalizing a few minor details, leading us to announce today that suite and seat holders are entitled to their usual access and enjoyment during the World Cup.”
Concerns and Legal Actions
The concern for suite owners arose previously when uncertainty about their seat rights lingered. One suite owner even initiated legal action against Profeco, the Mexican Federal Consumer Protection Agency, to secure their access rights. Additionally, the Azteca suite owners’ association had warned of potential legal measures if an arrangement with FIFA was not established that would preserve their access to the seats.
Negotiation Challenges
Roberto Ruano, a representative for the suite owners, expressed their readiness for legal challenges following a series of unresolved negotiations between FIFA and the stadium. He revealed to ESPN that many proposals were rejected by FIFA and commented:
“The stadium offered FIFA numerous options, but every single one was turned down until they insisted on a hefty payment equivalent to the highest ticket price for each seat. This intense negotiation process eventually led to a resolution, where the stadium had to cover costs out of their own funds to ensure suite owners could utilize their seats.”
Confirmation of Access
Aguirre later confirmed that the necessary payments had indeed been made to FIFA, ensuring suite owners have assured access and use of their seats during the tournament. He emphasized:
“Yes, we have paid, and access is guaranteed. There are additional hospitality services available for purchase, but entry is complimentary.”
Looking Ahead
Suite owners can now look forward to enjoying their full access during the five World Cup matches that will take place in the Azteca Stadium, which is set to become the first venue in history to host matches in three different World Cups. Official communication detailing the resolution will soon be dispatched to suite owners. ESPN has reached out to FIFA for a statement regarding the situation.
This resolution marks a significant milestone for the suite owners, who had long awaited clarity and reassurance for their rights ahead of the highly anticipated global event.
