Farewell to Real Madrid
In an emotional announcement, Lucas Vázquez is bidding farewell to Real Madrid, a club he has been with since joining their youth ranks in 2007 at just 16 years old. The departure was confirmed on Wednesday, with the talented player expressing his deep appreciation for his time at the club in a heartfelt social media tribute.
“Although I’m leaving Real Madrid, the club will always remain part of me. Wherever life takes me, I will proudly declare that I played for the best team in the world. Thank you for this incredible journey,” Vázquez shared.
Club’s Tribute and Achievements
Real Madrid is honoring Vázquez with a farewell ceremony scheduled for Thursday. In an official statement, the club expressed their gratitude, highlighting him as one of their legendary figures.
“Lucas Vázquez embodies the ideals of Real Madrid, earning him a beloved status among our supporters. He demonstrates the dedication, humility, and competitive spirit essential for triumph in our colors,” stated club president Florentino Pérez.
With an impressive record, Vázquez has been central to Real Madrid’s success, contributing to a total of 23 trophies during his tenure, which includes five UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga championships. Overall, he made 402 appearances, showcasing his versatility by performing as a right-back, a forward, and an attacking midfielder.
Transition and Challenges
After a year on loan at Espanyol, Vázquez debuted for the first team in 2015 and has since become a fan favorite. Nevertheless, this transition comes on the heels of a challenging season for Real Madrid, where they faced disappointment, losing the La Liga title to Barcelona and not reaching finals in both the Club World Cup and the Champions League.
Vázquez is not the only notable departure from the club; fellow legend Luka Modric is heading to AC Milan, while manager Carlo Ancelotti is stepping down to allow Xabi Alonso to take over for the upcoming season.
