Louisville Cardinals Triumph Over Stanford

In a convincing display on Thursday night, the No. 7 ranked Louisville Cardinals triumphed over the Stanford Cardinal with a final score of 84-66, marking their 13th consecutive victory of the season. With this win, Louisville improved their record to 20-3, maintaining their position at the top of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) alongside No. 20 Duke, who also secured a win against Miami on the same day.

Game Highlights

The game unfolded with Stanford’s Mackenly Randolph immediately making an impact by scoring a 3-pointer during the very first possession. Randolph showcased her shooting prowess throughout the match, finishing with 14 points, including three 3-pointers in the first quarter alone. The Cardinals established control early on and never looked back, even extending their lead to as much as 27 points towards the end of the game when they led 82-55.

Stanford’s Struggles

Stanford struggled, now facing three straight losses, and the absence of their leading scorer, Nunu Agara, who averages 14.5 points per game, certainly contributed to their woes. Agara was sidelined due to an injury sustained in a previous game against Cal.

In a bid to close the gap, Stanford made attempts to reduce their deficit in the third quarter, bringing it down to ten points on two occasions. However, Louisville retaliated decisively, finishing the quarter strong with a 7-0 run that increased their lead to 63-46 by the end of the period.

Individual Performances

Courtney Ogden led the Stanford team with 16 points, while teammates Chloe Clardy and Shay Ijiwoye each added 15 points, with Ijiwoye shooting an impressive 75% from the field. Despite some scoring contributions, Stanford’s first-half struggles were evident as they committed 14 turnovers, enabling Louisville to convert these into 16 points.

Looking Ahead

As both teams prepare for their next matchups, Louisville will head to California for their upcoming game, while Stanford will host Notre Dame. The road ahead remains crucial for both squads as they look to position themselves for postseason success.
