In a thrilling aftermath of his long-awaited return, Logan O’Connor scored a pivotal goal for the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, leading them to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in the opening match of their playoff series. After seeing a second-period goal disallowed due to goaltender interference, O’Connor finally secured his much-anticipated goal in the third period, which significantly contributed to his team’s win.

O’Connor’s struggle has been considerable since scoring in the playoffs against Dallas on April 26. Following hip surgery in June, his return to full health was delayed, causing his season debut to be pushed back until March 24. In the regular season, he managed only 13 games, registering two assists.
Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog, who himself faced a lengthy recovery from a knee injury before rejoining the team last year, empathized with O’Connor’s struggle:
“We kept telling him to save those goals for when we really needed him. Tonight was one of those times.”

noted goaltender Scott Wedgewood, who had 24 saves in his playoff debut.
Earlier, O’Connor had a close chance in the second period, which was ruled out due to contact made by teammate Jack Drury with Forsberg. Although the Avalanche challenged the decision, the original call stood, limiting their momentum. Reflecting on the disallowed goal, O’Connor stated,
“I hoped we’d get that one back following the challenge. We did well to prevent them from gaining momentum after that.”

Drury added.
