Tragic Incident During Liverpool’s Title Parade

In the wake of a tragic event during Liverpool’s title parade, manager Arne Slot expressed his gratitude to the football community for their support, while revealing his decision to forgo an awards dinner in a show of solidarity with those affected. The incident occurred when a vehicle collided with a crowd on Water Street in Liverpool, injuring over 50 individuals, with 11 requiring ongoing medical treatment.

Manager of the Year Awards

Slot was honored at the League Managers Association (LMA) Awards ceremony held in London, where he received both Manager of the Year and Premier League Manager of the Year accolades for guiding Liverpool to their 20th league title. However, he chose not to attend the ceremony in light of the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the parade, stating:

“This is not a decision I have taken lightly but it is one that I feel is absolutely right given the seriousness of the situation.”

Reflecting on the incident, Slot emphasized the impact it had on the community, saying:

“A shocking incident took place in Liverpool yesterday that left dozens injured. I have had to withdraw from the event out of solidarity with all affected.”

He also extended his appreciation to the wider football community, including the LMA and the Premier League, for their overwhelming support in the aftermath of the tragic event.

Commendation for Emergency Services

Slot further commended the emergency services and bystanders who rushed to assist those in need during the crisis, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie within the sport. His first season in charge of Liverpool has been remarkable, taking over from Jurgen Klopp last summer and securing the league title with several matches to spare.

At the same event, other notable winners included Sonia Bompastor, who was awarded Women’s Super League Manager of the Year for Chelsea’s unbeaten run, and Daniel Farke, who received honors as Championship Manager of the Year after Leeds United returned to the Premier League.
