Liverpool Increases Bid to €134 Million for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz

Liverpool FC Pursues Florian Wirtz

Liverpool FC has ramped up their efforts to secure the services of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen by presenting a revised bid amounting to €134 million (£113 million). This latest offer includes an initial payment of €118.7 million (£100 million) along with potential performance-related bonuses totaling €15.4 million (£13 million). Despite their substantial offer, Liverpool has indicated they will not meet Leverkusen’s rumored asking price of €150 million (£126.4 million) for the talented German midfielder.

Leverkusen’s Position

Leverkusen is urgent in their response as they would prefer to avoid letting Wirtz enter the final year of his contract, which is valid until 2027. Earlier reports suggested that Liverpool initially proposed a bid just shy of €130 million (£109 million) for the 22-year-old, factoring in both guaranteed and contingent payments based on future performances. Wirtz has become a prime target for Liverpool this summer, and he appears to have a strong inclination towards a transfer to Anfield.

Interests from Other Clubs

Recent insights indicated that Bayern Munich showed interest in Wirtz as well, but he has evidently signaled a preference for the Merseyside club. Negotiations between Liverpool and Leverkusen took off following Liverpool’s prior activation of Jeremie Frimpong’s release clause, which was reported to be around €35 million (£29.6 million, or $39.3 million). Frimpong, a Dutch wing-back, has already signed a five-year deal and is expected to undergo a medical assessment soon.

Wirtz’s Impressive Performance

Wirtz’s impressive form during the last Bundesliga season has only heightened his appeal; he was instrumental in leading Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title in 2023-24, finishing the campaign with 18 goals and 20 assists, and earning the accolade of Bundesliga Player of the Season. Furthermore, he contributed significantly in the previous season with 16 goals and 15 assists, helping his team secure a second-place finish.

Over his tenure with Leverkusen since making his senior debut in the 2019-20 season, Wirtz has amassed a remarkable total of 122 goal contributions (57 goals and 65 assists) across 197 matches. His national recognition includes 29 appearances for the German national team, showcasing his growing prominence in European football.
