Liverpool Football Club’s ownership, Fenway Sports Group, has pledged to honor the entirety of Diogo Jota’s contract, even after the tragic passing of the player at the young age of 28. Jota lost his life in a car accident alongside his brother, André Silva, on July 3, shortly following his wedding to Rute Cardoso.
Manager’s Commitment
Reds manager Arne Slot shared this commitment during an interview with TNT Sports, emphasizing the club’s compassion towards Jota’s family.
“I expressed my pride in how the fans and ownership have responded during this difficult time,” Slot remarked, highlighting the usually critical nature of media attitudes towards owners and managers. “People often overlook the gravity of their decision to provide financial support to Jota’s widow and children by fulfilling his contract, which was set to run until the end of the 2026-27 season. This is far from a common practice in football.”
