RB Leipzig’s Interest in Harvey Elliott
RB Leipzig has reached out to Liverpool regarding the possible acquisition of midfielder Harvey Elliott. Although discussions are still in their early stages, conversations between the two clubs are underway. As reported previously on July 1, Leipzig is among several clubs showing interest in Elliott, whose transfer fee is believed to be set by Liverpool at over £40 million with a buy-back clause, or exceeding £50 million without.
Potential Successor to Xavi Simons
The German side sees Elliott, who is only 22, as a suitable successor for Xavi Simons, whose future at the club looks uncertain as the transfer window nears its conclusion. According to reports from July 29, Leipzig has been engaged in talks with Chelsea about potentially transferring the Dutch international. In the previous Bundesliga season, Simons was impressive, netting 10 goals and delivering six assists.
Elliott’s Recent Performance
During the 2024-25 season, Elliott featured in just two Premier League matches for Liverpool, both of which occurred after Arne Slot’s team had already clinched the league title. He racked up a total of 28 appearances across all competitions, contributing five goals and three assists.
In June, Elliott expressed concerns about not wanting to “waste years of my career” due to limited playing time at Liverpool. While he stated, “Nothing makes me want to leave… I love the club, I love the fans,” he emphasized the importance of prioritizing his own career development.
International Success
Elliott recently showcased his talent at the Under-21 European Championship, where he was named Player of the Tournament after helping England claim their second consecutive title in June with a win against Germany. He scored five goals throughout the tournament, including a goal in the final and a brace during the semi-final against the Netherlands, making him one of the few players to be part of both the 2023 and 2025 victorious teams under coach Lee Carsley.
Career Overview
Since joining Liverpool from Fulham in 2019, Elliott has made 147 appearances for the club, including a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers during the 2020-21 season, and he has been a part of six trophy-winning campaigns at Anfield.
