LeBron James Prepares for His 23rd NBA Season

As LeBron James gears up for his 23rd season in the NBA, retirement rumors are swirling, fueled by his recent foray into golf. However, during an interview on “360 With Speedy” while promoting his latest sneaker in China, James addressed these speculations directly.

Chasing History

At 40, James is on the brink of making history; if he competes in the upcoming 2025-26 season, he will surpass Vince Carter’s record for the most seasons played in the league, totaling 23 years. Despite the longevity of his career, James clarified that he isn’t quite ready to retire, acknowledging that he’s certainly aware of being on the downside of his playing days.

“I know I’m on the other side of the hump, for sure. Come on now, I’m not about to play another 23 years, that’s for damn sure, and I’m not about to play another 10. I’m definitely gearing up to where the end is, but I’m not there yet,”

James stated.

The Significance of Number 23

The number 23 holds significant meaning for James, representing not only his NBA jersey number but also his transition into this milestone season and the launch of his 23rd signature Nike shoe, fittingly tied into the slogan “Forever King”. Even as he explores new interests like golf, he insists this does not indicate a shift toward retirement.

“Listen guys, every time I pick up something new, it does not mean retirement. It’s just something I want to do, just a little hobby. But retirement is coming, it is coming. It’s just not here just yet,”

James reassured his fans.

Continued Dominance on the Court

Despite his age, James remains a formidable player. Last season, he averaged an impressive 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists, achieving a shooting accuracy of 51.3 percent. Moreover, with over 37 percent accuracy from beyond the arc, he marked one of the most productive seasons of his career, finishing sixth in MVP voting.

As the NBA season approaches, culminating in the start of training camps later this month, fans are eager to witness what is likely to be another exciting chapter in James’ extraordinary career.
