LeBron James Sidelined for Almost a Month
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is set to be sidelined for almost a month, delaying his highly anticipated start to the 2025-26 NBA season. At 40 years old, James is aiming for a comeback around mid-November as discussed by ESPN’s Shams Charania, following a diagnosis of sciatica.
Injury Details
The Lakers organization, alongside James, is hopeful for a mid-November return, particularly around October 30, when the team plans to reassess his condition.
The star forward took a break during training camp due to some initial glute pain, but the situation escalated when he was diagnosed with sciatica earlier this month. This painful condition stems from issues involving the sciatic nerve, which extends from the lower back through the glutes and down the legs. Charania notes that the injury likely occurred during a workout session late in July or early August.
James’ Performance and Strategy
James is known for his strategic approach to health, especially considering that he will turn 41 later this December. Despite his age, he remains a dominant force within the league, having averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds last season.
Impact on the Team
In the absence of James, Luka Dončić is expected to assume greater responsibilities as the Lakers begin the season. The 26-year-old star had been working on his fitness during the offseason, aiming to enhance his performance levels. Last season, Dončić turned in an impressive performance, averaging 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists.
With James unavailable for roughly 12 to 14 games to start the season, Dončić’s conditioning will be put to the test immediately, as he steps up to fill the gap left by the veteran’s absence.
