Laurent Brossoit: A Goaltender’s Journey
Laurent Brossoit, a goaltender recently signed by the Chicago Blackhawks in preparation for the 2024-25 season, has not yet made an appearance in any games due to injury. Over the past few weeks, he has participated in skating sessions ahead of the team’s practices, indicating he is on the verge of returning to form.
Conditioning Stint and Future Prospects
Plans are in place for Brossoit to embark on a conditioning stint with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, after which he is expected to transition back up to the NHL.
Before joining the Blackhawks, Brossoit had built a reputation as one of the top backup goaltenders in the league and was anticipated to provide stability to Chicago’s goaltending situation. However, since his injury, the Blackhawks have effectively established a stronger goaltending lineup, with Spencer Knight taking the reins as the primary starter and Arvid Soderblom serving as a capable backup. Additionally, Drew Commesso is also in Rockford, poised for his opportunity in the NHL.
Potential Trade and Career Revival
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, it is anticipated that Brossoit may be traded following his recovery stint.
While the Blackhawks may not receive a significant return for him, this decision reflects a considerate approach from General Manager Kyle Davidson, allowing Brossoit to revive his career elsewhere after his unfortunate circumstances in Chicago. As Brossoit progresses, he hopes to contribute meaningfully to a new team moving forward.
